About the Role:
BioNTech SE currently runs a variety of digitalization projects including SAP ERP, MES and LIMS systems. As part of our growth activities our digital solutions will be extended by a global LIMS Platform for the research and development/ scientific part at BioNTech and we want to increase our efforts to bring more digital solutions in to support our R&D processes. Thus, a global R&D digital ecosystem including various capabilities is currently rolled out to our labs.
As Senior System Engineer, you will be part of the team that builds, deploys and runs software solutions to support the digitalization of R&D labs. You will be taking over strategic responsibility in all phases of the lifecycle of assigned software systems, from ideation over implementation to maintenance. In the solutioning phase, it is the responsibility to identify the most suitable solution for the underlying business needs in alignment with the respective governance and frame conditions. As the owner of the applications, the Senior System Engineer Service Owner aligns all activities with the stakeholders (business partners, domain architect) and makes sure that the solutions meet the user requirements.
With a very high level of domain expertise and strategic competence in R&D Lab Systems, you work cross functional through the application and project life cycle to ensure consistent processes delivered according to our standards for the designated application area(s).
Your Contribution:
- Solution Design: Identify the most suitable technical solutions for complex business needs, ensuring alignment with IT governance and strategic frameworks.
- Stakeholder Management: Act as the central interface between business partners, technical teams, and domain architects to ensure solutions meet user requirements and corporate standards.
- Strategic Advisory: Leverage your deep expertise in R&D lab systems (e.g., ELN, SDMS, Automation, Data Evaluation) to provide market insights and drive the application roadmap.
- Project Delivery: Lead the technical change management and ensure the successful, compliant delivery of assigned software projects.
- Continuous Improvement: Ensure long-term stakeholder satisfaction by maintaining a high-performing and scalable software landscape.
A Good Match:
- Degree in Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Pharmacy, or a related field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience in pharma, IT operations, or process management.
- Strong technical affinity to identify best suitable technical solutions for complex challenges.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, or PowerShell is required; basic familiarity with modern programming languages such as Java or C# is considered a plus.
- Understanding of common device communication standards, such as OPC UA/DA and SiLA2 appreciated.
- Very strong communication skills with fluency in English required, and advanced proficiency in German is considered a plus.
